A wonderful article about us in "Zeitgeist" Issue 06/15:

Coffee from Tegernsee? Although our region boasts the most beautiful forests and flower meadows, Tegernsee is not a place where equatorial temperatures prevail for coffee cultivation. However, "the Tegernsee locals" and their guests are known as connoisseurs with high demands for quality, regionality, and sustainability. Good coffee is like good wine. Just as with wine, the variety, the country of cultivation, the climatic zone, the location, and the soil conditions determine a large part of the quality and character of coffee. High- quality coffee is still harvested by hand today, as it is important to pick the coffee cherries, which ripen differently on the bush, at exactly the right stage of ripeness.

Nevertheless, one thing remains: cultivating coffee at Tegernsee would be a wasted effort. However, there is a small manufactory at Tegernsee that coaxes out the coffee's final refinement and thus its unique taste through roasting: a craft in itself! The coffee roaster, and no one else, understands how to find the right roasting profile for each variety and to elicit the diverse aromas from the coffee beans. This is precisely what happens at Erste Tegernseer Kaffeerösterei. Mario Felix Liebold, owner of Erste Tegernseer Kaffeerösterei, understands the business of black gold: his coffee specialties are still hand-roasted, so that customers get the right taste and can enjoy virtually the whole world in a cup.

FROM THE EQUATOR TO TEGERNSEE

Many coffees from Erste Tegernseer Kaffeerösterei are imported directly by Liebold, or together with his befriended roasters. Here, coffee is still bought directly from the farmer of the coffee plantation; no middlemen, no stock market trading, only the transport company receives its fee. The earnings thus go to precisely those people who have put in the most effort for the product: the coffee farmers. So, if you've always wanted to embark on a culinary world tour, Erste Tegernseer Kaffeerösterei is the place to be. All that remains is the agony of choice: Bolivia, El Salvador, Honduras, or Tanzania. The roastery at the foot of the Wallberg invites you for an afternoon coffee in its directly connected sales rooms and the associated Café Felix. Fancy a cup of coffee?
